Electra Peak is a cool mountain located in the famous Yosemite National Park. It's found in the Tuolumne Meadows area, though it's a bit far from the main roads. Electra Peak is one of the tallest mountains in Yosemite, ranking as the 14th highest. It stands at an impressive 12,442 feet (3,792 meters) above sea level.
The mountain might have gotten its name from a play called Electra.
Where is Electra Peak?
Electra Peak sits in a very special location. It's right on the border of two amazing natural areas: Yosemite National Park and the Ansel Adams Wilderness. This means it's surrounded by incredible wild landscapes.
The peak is about 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) south of another mountain called Rodgers Peak. You'll find many other famous mountains nearby. To the east, you can see Banner Peak and Mount Ritter. To the north, there's a group of mountains including Mount Maclure, Mount Lyell, and Rodgers Peak. The Lyell Fork Merced River flows to the west of Electra Peak. Other close mountains include Matterhorn Peak, Foerster Peak, and Mount Ansel Adams.
Climbing Electra Peak
If you're thinking about climbing Electra Peak, it's generally considered a "Class 2" climb. In climbing terms, this means it's more than just walking on a trail. You might need to use your hands for balance on some rocky parts. However, it doesn't usually require ropes or special climbing gear. It's a fun challenge for experienced hikers and climbers.
