How Elektra Was Created

Frank Miller created Elektra. She first showed up in Daredevil #168 in January 1981. Miller based her look on Lisa Lyon, a bodybuilder.
Miller first planned for Elektra to appear only once. But she became a popular villain in Daredevil. She was even killed off in issue #181 in April 1982. She was brought back to life later. The story said Daredevil should never meet her again.
After more than ten years, Elektra returned in Daredevil #324–327 (January–April 1994). She also appeared for a short time in Wolverine comics. The writer of Daredevil, D. G. Chichester, said he and editor Ralph Macchio talked about bringing her back many times.
Chichester explained that they didn't want to bring her back just as a trick. When Ralph Macchio suggested it, it helped Chichester connect all the parts of his story. He felt Elektra was the missing piece.
This made Frank Miller upset. He said Marvel had promised him they would not use the character without his permission. Since then, Elektra has starred in her own comic series and several mini-series.
Elektra's Powers and Skills
Elektra is very skilled in martial arts and using weapons. She learned ancient fighting styles from China, Siam, and Japan. She is a master at using the Okinawan sai, which are her favorite weapons.
She is also good with katana swords, daggers, three-section staff, and shuriken. Elektra knows many Japanese fighting forms, like Ninjutsu, Aikido, and Karate.
Elektra is an amazing athlete, like an Olympic champion. She is strong in gymnastics and swimming. She has great strength, speed, stamina, and quickness. She is also very flexible and has excellent balance.
She can handle pain, extreme heat, and cold very well. Elektra can move so fast and quietly that she can stay hidden even in daylight.
Elektra can also hypnotize people. This means she can make them see illusions or other things that are not real.
She can "throw" her mind into other people's minds. For example, she used this to find her enemy, Ken Wind. She would temporarily control people's minds to act through them while she searched. This mind control helps her understand what her targets are thinking or planning.
Elektra can communicate with her mind (telepathically) with others who have similar mental training. She learned this skill while training with The Hand. This connects her mentally to The Beast, a powerful being of The Hand. She can also protect her own mind from others.
She can also see small parts of future events. These are called precognitive visions.
