Emil Hegle Svendsen (born 12 July 1985) is a retired Norwegian biathlete. He has won eight medals at the Winter Olympics (four gold) and many gold medals at World Championships.

He was known as "Super-Svendsen" and competed for the Trondhjems Skiskyttere club in his hometown of Trondheim, Norway.

Emil Svendsen's Biathlon Journey

Emil Hegle Svendsen started his amazing career in biathlon, a sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. He became one of the best biathletes in the world.

Early Career and First World Cup Season

Svendsen's first big season in the Biathlon World Cup was in 2005–06. Before that, he competed as a junior in the European Cup. In his first World Cup season, he often finished in the top five. He even placed sixth in the mass start event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.

As a junior, Svendsen won four gold medals at the Junior World Championships. These wins showed he was a rising star in the sport. He also earned two bronze medals in earlier junior competitions.

Breakthrough Success in 2008

On December 13, 2007, Svendsen won his first World Cup race. This was a 20 km individual event in Pokljuka. His biggest success came at the 2008 World Championships. There, he won two individual gold medals. He took first place in both the individual race and the mass start. He finished the overall season in third place.

Olympic Glory and World Titles

Svendsen continued to achieve great things. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he won a silver medal in the 10 km sprint. He then went on to win two gold medals. These were in the 20 km individual race and the men's relay event.

He added more Olympic gold medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. He won the 15 km mass start and the mixed relay. In the mixed relay, he teamed up with other famous Norwegian biathletes.

Emil Svendsen retired from biathlon after the 2017–2018 season. He left the sport as a true champion.

Life After Biathlon

After he stopped competing in 2018, Svendsen decided to go to college. He studied for a degree in business. While studying, he worked as a biathlon expert for a Norwegian TV channel. He also coached a youth biathlon team. In 2023, he finished his studies. Now, he works in real estate development.
