Tora Berger, born on March 18, 1981, is a famous retired biathlete from Norway. She is an Olympic champion and one of the most successful biathletes ever. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

Tora Berger: Life Outside of Sports
Tora Berger got married in 2010. She met her husband when they were in high school. They have two dogs named Tussi and Tarzan. Tarzan often joins Tora when she goes for training runs. When Tora is away from home for biathlon competitions, she likes to knit and read. She especially enjoys reading mystery books. When she is not doing biathlon, she also enjoys hunting and fishing. Tora has an older brother, Lars Berger, who is also a biathlete and cross-country skier.
Tora Berger's Amazing Biathlon Career
Tora Berger joined the Norwegian women's biathlon team in 1999. She has won 28 individual races in the Biathlon World Cup.
Early World Championship Success
At the 2008 World Championship, Tora finished fourth three times. After that, she won a silver medal in the mass start event.
Olympic Gold and Historic Wins
On February 18, 2010, Tora Berger made history. She became the first Norwegian woman to win an Olympic gold medal in biathlon. She won the women's 15 km individual race at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. This was Norway's 100th gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games. It was also Norway's 10th biathlon gold medal. This made Norway the first country to reach 100 gold medals at the Winter Olympics.
At the Biathlon World Championships 2012 in Ruhpolding, Tora won two more gold medals. She won the 15 km individual race and the 12.5 km mass start race.
Dominating the World Championships
At the Biathlon World Championships 2013 in Nove Mesto, Tora won medals in every event she entered. She earned a gold medal in the mixed relay. She also won a silver in the sprint race. Then, she took gold again in the pursuit event. She was the first woman to win the 15 km individual title two times in a row.
After that, she had an amazing performance in the relay race. She started almost 40 seconds behind the leaders. But she caught up and won another gold medal for her team. She then won a silver medal in the mass start. Tora has 18 World Championship medals. This places her second in the total medal count, just one medal behind Uschi Disl. At the same championships, she also became the first biathlete, male or female, to win six medals at one World Championship. She won four gold and two silver medals.
Sochi 2014 Olympic Medals
Tora Berger competed in biathlon at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She won three more medals there. She won a gold medal in the mixed relay. She raced with Tiril Eckhoff, Ole Einar Bjørndalen, and Emil Hegle Svendsen. She also won a silver medal in the women's pursuit. And she took another silver in the women's relay race.
Tora Berger's World Cup Success
Tora Berger was part of the Norwegian women's biathlon team since 1999. Before the 2011–12 season, she had never won the overall World Cup title. Her best finish was third place in the 2008–09 and 2011–12 seasons.
Winning All Crystal Globes
Tora had a fantastic 2012–13 World Cup season. She won 11 races and was on the podium 19 times. This tied Magdalena Forsberg's record for the most podium finishes in one season. Tora won all three races at Oslo Holmenkollen. This helped her win the crystal globes for both the Overall women's World Cup and the Pursuit discipline. By the end of the season, she had won crystal globes for all five women's disciplines: Individual, Sprint, Pursuit, and Mass Start. This was a rare achievement, last done by Magdalena Forsberg in 2001–02. With Tora's help, Norway also won the Women's Nation Cup, Women's Relay Cup, and Mixed Relay Cup in 2012–13.
