Emiliano Moretti (born on June 11, 1981) is a former Italian footballer. He played as a centre back, which is a type of defender.
Moretti started his career with a local club called Lodigiani. In 1998, he joined Fiorentina. He later played for big clubs like Juventus and Valencia. With Valencia, he won the Copa del Rey in 2008.
He returned to Italy in 2009 to play for Genoa. In 2013, he moved to Torino, where he played until he retired in 2019. He played over 600 club games in his career.
Moretti also played for Italy's national youth teams. He won a European Under-21 Championship and a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2014, at 33 years old, he played his first game for the senior Italian national team.

Starting Out in Italy
Emiliano Moretti began his football journey at Lodigiani. In 1998, he joined Fiorentina. He played his first Serie A game in March 2001. Serie A is Italy's top football league.
He was part of the Fiorentina team that won the Coppa Italia in 2001. This is a major cup competition in Italy. After Fiorentina faced financial issues, Moretti moved to Juventus in 2002. He was then loaned to Modena to gain more experience. In 2003, he joined Parma and was loaned to Bologna.
Playing for Valencia in Spain
In 2004, Moretti moved to the Spanish club Valencia. He joined other Italian players there. Soon after joining, Valencia won the UEFA Super Cup in August 2004. They beat Porto 2-1 in that match.
Moretti became a key player for Valencia as a left-back defender. He scored his first goal for Valencia in November 2004. This was in a league game against Mallorca. He played 29 games in his first season.
The next season, he played 33 games and helped Valencia finish third in the league. In November 2006, Moretti got a serious knee injury. This kept him out of action for over three months. Despite the injury, Valencia reached the Champions League quarter-finals that season.

Final Years at Torino
In July 2013, Emiliano Moretti joined Torino. He signed a two-year contract with the club. He played his first game for Torino in August, in the Coppa Italia. In December, he scored his first goal for Torino in a 4-1 win.
In January 2015, he scored a very late goal against Inter Milan. This helped Torino win at San Siro stadium for the first time in 27 years. This was his second goal for Torino. He continued to score important goals for the team.
His contract with Torino was extended several times. On May 26, 2019, Moretti played his last professional football game. He came on as a substitute for Torino in a 3-1 win against Lazio. After this game, he retired from football. He played over 600 club games in his career.

Youth and Olympic Success
