Emily Erin Deschanel (born October 11, 1976) is an American actress. She is best known for playing Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan in the popular TV show Bones. This show was on the Fox network from 2005 to 2017.

Early Life and School Days
Emily Deschanel was born in Los Angeles, California. Her father, Caleb Deschanel, is a famous filmmaker who works as a cinematographer and director. Her mother, Mary Jo Deschanel, is also an actress. Emily has a younger sister named Zooey Deschanel, who is also an actress and singer.
Emily's family has roots from different countries, including France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, England, and Ireland. She went to Harvard-Westlake School and Crossroads School in Los Angeles.
Her Acting Career
Emily Deschanel started her film career in 1994 in the movie It Could Happen to You. Her father worked on this movie too. Later, she had a notable role in the horror miniseries Rose Red in 2002.
She also appeared in several other movies like Cold Mountain, The Alamo, and Glory Road. In 2004, Interview Magazine named her one of "six actresses to watch."
Starring in Bones
In 2005, Emily got her most famous role as Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan in the TV series Bones. This show was about a forensic anthropologist (someone who studies human remains to solve crimes). The character was inspired by real-life author Kathy Reichs.
Bones was a very successful show and ran for 12 seasons, from 2005 to 2017. For her work on the show, Emily was nominated for a Satellite Award in 2006 and a Teen Choice Award in 2007. She also became a producer for the show during its run. While working on Bones, she also played her character in episodes of Sleepy Hollow and BoJack Horseman.
Other Projects
Emily Deschanel has also used her fame to support important causes. She made a video with other actresses like Alyson Hannigan and Jaime King to encourage regular breast cancer screenings. This video was for the Stand Up 2 Cancer organization.
She is also very passionate about animal welfare. She narrated a show called My Child Is a Monkey and helped produce a documentary film called How I Became an Elephant. In 2022, Emily starred in the Netflix miniseries Devil in Ohio.
Activism and Beliefs
Emily Deschanel is a vegan, which means she does not eat any animal products. She is a strong supporter of animal rights. She became vegan after watching a film called Diet for a New America.
She has spoken out about how eating a vegan diet can help the environment. She also worked with PETA to create a video encouraging mothers to raise their children as vegans. In 2014, she joined the board of directors for Farm Sanctuary, an organization that rescues farm animals.
Emily was raised Roman Catholic, but she no longer practices that religion. She has shared that she is more of a spiritual person and believes that we don't know everything about the world.

On September 25, 2010, Emily Deschanel married actor and writer David Hornsby. They had a small private wedding in Los Angeles. They have two sons. Their first son was born on September 21, 2011, and their second son was born on June 8, 2015.
