Erbert & Gerbert's Sandwich Shop is a restaurant chain that makes delicious submarine sandwiches. It started in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1987. The very first store opened its doors in 1988.
Today, you can find over 50 Erbert & Gerbert's locations across many states. These include places like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and North Dakota. You can also find them in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, Ohio, and Texas. There's even one in North Carolina and another in Georgia. The main office for the company is still in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Many of their shops are often found close to college campuses.

How Erbert & Gerbert's Began
The first Erbert & Gerbert's restaurant was opened by Kevin and Beth Schippers in 1988. It was on Water Street in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The name "Erbert & Gerbert's" comes from characters in fun stories Kevin's father used to tell him.
In 2003, Kevin Schippers was recognized for his hard work. He received an award called Wisconsin's 2003 Emerging Small Business Person. This award came from the Small Business Administration. Later that year, Kevin decided to follow a different path and work in ministry. So, he sold the company that handles the franchises to a group of investors. Eric Wolfe was the main owner of this group. Kevin Schippers still owns the very first store in Eau Claire.
What Makes Their Sandwiches Special?
Erbert & Gerbert's makes their sandwiches in a unique way. They cut the bread and carefully take out some of the soft dough from the middle. This leaves more room for all the tasty fillings on top of the sandwich.
In 2009, Erbert & Gerbert's won a special award called a Gold Effie Award. They earned this for their great advertising campaign. This campaign was created by a company called Colle+McVoy.
To celebrate 20 years of making sandwiches, Erbert & Gerbert's created a fun commercial. It supposedly used the world's largest Air Vortex Cannon!
