Ernest Ferrell Bowman (born July 28, 1935 – died August 4, 2019) was an American baseball player. He played as an infielder for the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball from 1961 to 1963. Ernie was born in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was right-handed when he batted and threw. He was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 160 pounds.

Ernie's Early Baseball Career

Ernie Bowman started his baseball journey in 1956. He was signed by the New York Giants. This happened after he went to East Tennessee State University. Ernie played professional baseball for 14 seasons. However, he only spent two full years in the major leagues.

Playing for the San Francisco Giants

Ernie Bowman was an important backup player for the San Francisco Giants. He often filled in for the team's main shortstop, José Pagán. He also played for the second baseman, Chuck Hiller.

A Key Moment in 1962

In 1962, Ernie was part of the Giants team. They became the National League champions. On August 23, 1962, Ernie hit his only home run in Major League Baseball. This happened against Al Jackson of the New York Mets. The game was played at the Polo Grounds. Ernie's home run was a big part of the Giants' 2–1 win.

Ernie also played in two games of the Giants' special series. This was a tie-breaker series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also played in two games of the 1962 World Series.
