Team History and Success
The city of Everett wanted a hockey team. They planned to build a new arena downtown. In 2001, the WHL agreed to let Everett have a team. This new team was close to the Seattle Thunderbirds. So, the Thunderbirds' owner, Bill Yuill, had the first chance to buy the new team. He decided to sell the Thunderbirds instead. He then took over the new Everett team.
The new arena, the Everett Events Centre, was ready for the team's first season. It could seat 8,200 fans. In 2003, the team hired Kevin Constantine. He was a former National Hockey League coach. He became their first head coach.
Starting Strong: The First Season
The Silvertips began playing in the 2003–04 season. Their team was built from an expansion draft. This means they picked players from other teams. They quickly became the best new team in league history. By January, Everett had won 19 games. This broke the old record of 18 wins for a new team. That record was set by the 1995–96 Calgary Hitmen.
The Silvertips went on to win 35 games. They finished first in the U.S. Division. In the playoffs, they made it all the way to the league final. They surprised the defending champions, the Kelowna Rockets. Defender Mitch Love scored an overtime goal to start that series. The team then played the Medicine Hat Tigers in the championship. They lost four games in a row and did not win the title. Even so, the Silvertips set new records for a new team. They were known as a strong defensive team. Coach Constantine was named the league's coach-of-the-year.
Continued Achievements
Three seasons later, in 2006–07, the Silvertips had an amazing year. They won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. This award is for the best regular season record. They won 54 games and earned 111 points. They then lost in the second round of the playoffs. That season, Zach Hamill became the first Silvertip to lead the WHL in scoring. He was the team's first player picked in the bantam draft.
The team's success on the ice brought many fans. The Silvertips became known for having large crowds. Even more than ten years later, they were still one of the top teams in the league for attendance.

Everett has always been a team that makes the playoffs. In 2017–18, they made another run for the league championship. Goaltender Carter Hart and coach Dennis Williams led the team. They had 47 wins, their best season since 2007. In the playoff finals, they played the Swift Current Broncos. They lost the series in six games.
Hart had a fantastic season. He was named the league's best player. He was also named best goaltender for the third year in a row. This added to the team's history of having great goalies. After Hart became a professional player, Dustin Wolf was named top goaltender two years in a row.
Before the 2024 playoffs, it was announced that coach and manager Williams would leave the Silvertips. He had been with the team for a long time.
Team Rivalries
The Silvertips have a strong rivalry with the nearby Seattle Thunderbirds. These two teams often play each other in the playoffs. From 2016 to 2018, the winner of their playoff series went on to the championship series.
Team Identity: Name and Logos
The team chose the name "Silvertips" after the grizzly bears. These bears live in the Pacific Northwest. The team picked green and silver as their main colors. Before their first season, they introduced a bear mascot named Lincoln. He was named after the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. This ship was based at Naval Station Everett at the time.
