History of Fairfax
Fairfax was founded in 1863. This happened when a railroad line was built to reach that spot. The city was named after Fairfax County, Virginia.
Geography of Fairfax
Fairfax is located at 41°55′11″N 91°46′49″W / 41.91972°N 91.78028°W. It is about 7 miles (11 km) southwest of downtown Cedar Rapids. The city is also found along U.S. Route 151.
The United States Census Bureau says that Fairfax covers a total area of about 1.96 square miles (5.08 square kilometers). Most of this area, 1.94 sq mi (5.02 sq km), is land. Only a small part, 0.02 sq mi (0.05 sq km), is water.
