Downtown Fairfax

Fairfax is a small town, also called a village, located in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. It's like a neighbor to the big city of Cincinnati. In 2020, about 1,768 people lived there.

A Look Back: Fairfax's History

Fairfax became an official village in 1955. This happened so that the larger city of Cincinnati wouldn't take over its land. For a while, Fairfax was still connected to Columbia Township.

But on January 1, 2010, Fairfax decided to become fully independent from Columbia Township. This was partly because people living in the village felt they weren't paying enough taxes to the township compared to how much say they had in its decisions.

Where is Fairfax?

Fairfax is located at 39°8′34″N 84°23′46″W / 39.14278°N 84.39611°W / 39.14278; -84.39611. It covers a total area of about 0.76 square miles (2 square kilometers), and all of it is land.

Fairfax's Neighbors

The village is surrounded by other places:

Fairfax also shares borders with four neighborhoods of Cincinnati:

Little Duck Creek

A small stream called Little Duck Creek flows through Fairfax. This creek eventually joins a larger one called Duck Creek, which then flows into the nearby Little Miami River. The Little Miami River then empties into the Ohio River.

Little Duck Creek divides the village into two parts that residents call "Lower Fairfax" and "Upper Fairfax." Lower Fairfax is a low-lying area in the northeast part of the village. It has often flooded during heavy rains, which has sadly caused some deaths. To help prevent future flood damage, the village has bought and torn down homes in Lower Fairfax using money from the government.
