About Fairview Mountain
Fairview Mountain is part of the Canadian Rockies, a huge mountain range. It reaches a height of 2,744 meters (about 9,000 feet) above sea level. Even though it looks very tall and steep from Lake Louise, it's actually a popular spot for hikers.
Where is Fairview Mountain Located?
This mountain is found in Banff National Park, one of Canada's oldest and most famous national parks. It's right next to Lake Louise, which is known for its beautiful turquoise water. The mountain is a big part of the stunning scenery around the lake.
Naming the Mountain
The name "Fairview" was given by Walter Wilcox in 1894. He was an explorer and mountaineer. He thought the view from the mountain's summit was incredibly beautiful, so he picked a name that means "a good view." The alternate name, Goat Mountain, probably came from the mountain goats that live in the area.
Hiking Fairview Mountain
Many people enjoy hiking up Fairview Mountain. Even though the cliffs you see from Lake Louise look very challenging, there's an easier path. This path goes around the back of the mountain, on its southern slopes.
Is the Hike Difficult?
The trail to the top is considered an easy scramble for experienced hikers. A scramble means you might need to use your hands a bit to climb over rocks, but it's not as hard as rock climbing. It's a great way to get amazing views without needing special climbing gear.
What to Expect on the Trail
The hike offers incredible views as you go higher. You'll see forests, rocky paths, and eventually, wide-open spaces. It's important to be prepared with good hiking shoes, water, and snacks. Always tell someone where you are going before you start your hike.
Views from the Summit
From the top of Fairview Mountain, you get a breathtaking 360-degree view. You can look down at the bright blue waters of Lake Louise. You can also see many other tall mountains in the Bow Range and the rest of the Canadian Rockies. It's a perfect spot for taking photos and enjoying nature's beauty.
