The New Fantastic Four (also known as The Fantastic Four) is an animated TV show from 1978. It was made by DePatie–Freleng Enterprises and Marvel Comics Animation. This show was the second cartoon series based on Marvel's popular comic book team, the Fantastic Four. The first series came out in 1967.
In this 1978 cartoon, there was a big change! The character Human Torch was replaced by a robot named H.E.R.B.I.E.. H.E.R.B.I.E. stands for Humanoid Experimental Robot, B-type, Integrated Electronics. The reason for this change was that the TV rights for Human Torch were being used for a different TV movie that was planned but never made.
In the world of Marvel's many universes, the cartoon from 1978 is known as Earth-78909.
