The Invisible Woman (whose real name is Susan "Sue" Storm-Richards) is a famous superhero from Marvel Comics. She used to be called the Invisible Girl. Sue is one of the founding members of the amazing Fantastic Four team. She was also the very first female superhero Marvel Comics created during a time called the Silver Age of Comics.
Sue got her incredible powers after being caught in a special space storm. Her main power is making herself and other things invisible! She can also create strong, invisible energy shields. These shields can protect her and her friends, or she can use them to move objects. Sue is a very important part of her family: her brother Johnny Storm, her husband Reed Richards, her friend Ben Grimm, and her kids, Franklin and Valeria.
At first, Sue's invisibility power was mostly used for defense. But as she grew, she learned to create powerful energy fields. This made her a much stronger member of the Fantastic Four. She became the team's second-in-command. While she was once in the shadow of her brother and husband, Sue is now seen as the heart of the Fantastic Four. She is also one of the most important heroes in the entire Marvel Universe.
The Invisible Woman has been played by several actresses in movies. Rebecca Staab played her in the 1994 film The Fantastic Four. Jessica Alba took on the role in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Most recently, Kate Mara played her in the 2015 film Fantastic Four.

How Invisible Woman Was Created
The character of Invisible Woman was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. She first appeared in the comic book The Fantastic Four #1 in November 1961. Stan Lee wanted Sue to have a unique power. He didn't want her to have super strength like Wonder Woman. So, he got the idea for invisibility from stories like The Invisible Man.
Developing Her Powers
When she first started, Sue's power of invisibility seemed less important than her teammates' abilities. But in issue #22 (January 1964), her creators gave her new powers. She could now make other objects and people invisible. She could also create strong force fields and invisible energy blasts.
Even with these new powers, Sue was mostly seen as an assistant to Reed Richards. This changed when a comic artist named John Byrne started working on the Fantastic Four comics. Under his writing, Sue became much more confident. Her powers also became more amazing and useful.
For example, she learned to use her force fields to move things in the air. She could also hold enemies still or attack them from far away. Sue even changed her superhero name from Invisible Girl to Invisible Woman. Today, she is known as one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe.
Invisible Woman's Abilities
Sue can shape her invisible force fields into many different forms. These can be simple shapes like walls, columns, or domes. She can also make them into weapons, like giant invisible battering rams or small, fast projectiles. Her force fields can be as small as a marble or as big as 100 feet (about 30 meters) across. She can even make a force field inside an object and expand it to make the object explode!
Sue can also use her force fields to fly. She creates invisible ramps or platforms that she can stand on. She can also use her force fields to move objects, almost like she has telekinetic powers. Many characters, including the Fantastic Four's biggest enemy, Doctor Doom, have said that Sue is the strongest member of the team. She can even break through the tough shell of a Celestial, which is a very powerful cosmic being.
Sue can create and control many force fields at the same time. Her power is only limited by how much she can concentrate. If she stops focusing on a field, it simply disappears.
Besides her powers, Susan is also a skilled fighter. She has been trained in hand-to-hand combat by Iron Fist. She also got extra training from the Thing and She-Hulk. Sue is also a natural leader because she cares so much about others. She often acts as the Fantastic Four's second-in-command. She takes over leading the team when Reed Richards is not there.
