Filip's Skiing Journey

Starting with Alpine Skiing

Filip Flisar first began his skiing career as an alpine skier. This means he raced down mountains in events like downhill or super-G. He took part in some junior championships and European Cup races. However, he didn't achieve much success in alpine skiing.

Switching to Freestyle Skiing

In 2008, Filip decided to try something new and joined the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup. This was a big change for him. His very first World Cup race in ski cross was on March 6, 2008, in Switzerland. He also tried a half-pipe event once, which is another type of freestyle skiing.

First Olympics in 2010

Filip proudly represented Slovenia at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. He competed in the men's ski cross event. He did very well, finishing in eighth place overall. The next year, at the 2011 World Championships, he placed eleventh in ski cross.

Winning an X Games Medal in 2012

In 2012, Filip earned a silver medal at the Winter X Games XVI in Aspen, USA. The X Games are famous for extreme sports, and winning a medal there is a big achievement! He placed second in the ski cross event.

Becoming a Ski Cross Champion

Filip had an amazing season in 2011–12. On January 11, 2012, he won his first-ever World Cup race in Alpe d'Huez, France. He went on to win two more World Cup races that season. Because of his great performance, he won the overall title for ski cross in the 2011–12 World Cup season. This meant he was the best ski cross racer that year! He also finished fifth in the overall freestyle skiing rankings.

Sochi Olympics in 2014

Filip competed again at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He made it to the semi-finals in men's ski cross. In the end, he finished in a strong sixth place overall in the competition.

World Champion in 2015

One of Filip's biggest achievements came on January 25, 2015. At the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2015, he won the gold medal in ski cross! He made an incredible comeback in the final race, moving from third place to first right at the end. This was Slovenia's first-ever gold medal at a Freestyle Skiing World Championship. He shared the podium with Jean-Frédéric Chapuis and Victor Öhling Norberg.

Trying Mountain Bike Racing

After his success in skiing, Filip also tried mountain bike racing. In 2016, he competed in the men's four-cross event at the World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy. He finished in tenth place, showing he's talented in more than one sport!
