What the Flag Looks Like
The flag of Pakistan has a dark green background. This green color covers most of the flag. On the left side, there is a vertical white stripe. This stripe goes from the top to the bottom of the flag.
In the middle of the green part, there is a white crescent moon. Next to the moon, there is a white five-pointed star. These symbols are very important to the flag's meaning.
The Meaning Behind the Symbols
Each part of the Pakistani flag has a special meaning. The large dark green part of the flag stands for the Muslim majority in Pakistan. This shows that most people in Pakistan are Muslims.
The white stripe on the left side represents the other communities in Pakistan. This includes Christians and people of other faiths. It shows that everyone, no matter their religion, is part of Pakistan.
The white crescent moon on the flag stands for progress. It means that Pakistan is always moving forward and growing. The white five-pointed star represents light and knowledge. It symbolizes a bright future and the importance of learning.
How the Flag Was Adopted
The flag was officially adopted by the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. This happened on August 11, 1947. This date was very close to Pakistan's Independence Day. The flag's design was based on an older flag. This older flag belonged to the All-India Muslim League.
