Discovering Foel Goch: A Welsh Mountain

Foel Goch stands at 611 meters (about 2,005 feet) tall. This makes it a significant peak in the Welsh landscape. It's known for its grassy top, which offers wide views of the surrounding area.

What You'll Find at the Top

When you reach the summit of Foel Goch, you'll see a few interesting things:

  • A trig point: This is a concrete pillar used by mapmakers to help create accurate maps.
  • A cairn: This is a pile of stones, often built by hikers to mark the highest point or a path.
  • A boundary stone: This stone marks where one area or property ends and another begins.

Unique Rocks and Views

The slopes of Foel Goch are scattered with large rocks called glacial erratics. These are rocks that were carried and dropped by glaciers thousands of years ago. One very large erratic can be found in an area called Cwm Da.

From the top of Foel Goch, you can see many other mountains:

These views show just how connected Foel Goch is to the wider mountain ranges of Wales.
