Frank Cooper's Career Journey

Frank Cooper studied business at the University of California at Berkeley. After that, he earned a law degree from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, he worked on the famous Harvard Law Review.

From 2001 to 2003, Cooper was a Vice President at America Online, Inc (AOL). He helped manage music sales and marketing programs there. In 1998, Cooper helped start an internet company called Urban Box Office Networks, Inc (UBO). This company focused on urban culture and minority markets. Before UBO, he worked behind the scenes for famous music labels like Motown Records and Def Jam Recordings.

Leading Marketing at PepsiCo

From 2010 to 2015, Frank Cooper was the main marketing boss for PepsiCo, Inc. worldwide. He was in charge of how PepsiCo's drinks, like SoBe and Aquafina, were marketed. He also led global media, entertainment, and digital efforts.

Cooper believed in creating content that people would enjoy. This helped PepsiCo connect with customers. He also led important deals, like renewing PepsiCo's big partnership with the NFL. He also helped create Pepsi's partnership with the TV show The X Factor.

From 2008 to 2010, Cooper was the Chief Marketing Officer for Pepsi-Cola in North America. He looked after all of PepsiCo's soft drinks. He helped relaunch the main Pepsi brand. The new idea was all about being positive and hopeful. This relaunch included ads like Word Play and the Pepsi Refresh Project. Many people thought it was one of PepsiCo's best marketing efforts.

Growing Digital Connections

Cooper also helped PepsiCo grow its online presence. He made special deals with companies like Foursquare and Twitter. He also created new online content. He launched Green Label Sound, a music label for new artists, connected to the Mountain Dew brand. He also helped set up partnerships with big stars like Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Eminem, One Direction, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne.

Cooper also led a very successful limited-time product for Mountain Dew. It was called DEWmocracy. This was an online game where fans could help create the next Mountain Dew flavor. In just 12 weeks, this idea sold over 17 million cases of soda!

In 2014, Cooper was an Executive Producer for Beats of the Beautiful Game. This was a music and film project with 11 original songs and short films. It featured famous artists like Kelly Rowland and Janelle Monáe, and directors like Spike Lee. This project was the first from Creators League, Pepsi's own production company for digital content, which Cooper helped start.

Before these big roles, Cooper also worked as Vice President of Promotions and Interactive Marketing for Pepsi-Cola North America. He joined PepsiCo in 2003, focusing on marketing for different cultures and new ideas.

Awards and Recognition

Frank Cooper has received many honors for his work. Fast Company magazine named him one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business. He was also on Advertising Age's Entertainment A-List. Billboard magazine listed him among their Power 100 in the music industry. He also received the Ad Color Legend Award.

In 2014, Harvard University gave him the Raymond J. McGuire Alumni Award. This award recognizes great professional achievements.
