Freeport is a small city in Stearns County, Minnesota, United States. It is part of the larger St. Cloud area. In 2020, about 675 people lived here. Freeport is known as "The city with a smile."

History of Freeport
A post office opened in Freeport in 1881. This meant people could send and receive mail there. The city was officially started, or incorporated, in 1892. It was named after another city called Freeport, Illinois.
Freeport has two special places listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are important buildings that have been kept safe because of their history. One is the Church of the Sacred Heart, built in 1905. The other is what's left of the old Swany White Flour Mills from 1898.
Geography of Freeport
Freeport is a small city, covering about 1.19 square miles (3.08 square kilometers) of land. It is located inside Oak Township but is a separate city government.
The city is easy to reach because it's right along Interstate 94 and U.S. Highway 52. Other local roads like Stearns County Roads 11 and 157 also pass through. A small stream called Getchell Creek flows nearby.

Freeport in the Media
Garrison Keillor is a famous writer and radio host. He created the fictional town of Lake Wobegon for his radio show, A Prairie Home Companion. Keillor has said that small towns in Stearns County, including Freeport, helped inspire his ideas for Lake Wobegon.
In 1998, the county honored Keillor and his show. They named an old railroad path the Lake Wobegon Trail. This trail is a popular place for walking and biking.
Notable People from Freeport
- Janice Ettle: A great runner who won Grandma's Marathon twice. She also won the 1985 Twin Cities Marathon.
- Bud Heidgerken: A politician from Minnesota.
