Gabriel "Gabe" Saporta (born October 11, 1979) is a musician and businessman from Uruguay and America. From 2005 to 2015, he was the main singer and founder of the electropop band Cobra Starship. In 2015, after ten years, Saporta announced that the band would stop making music. He decided to focus on helping other musicians through his new company, The Artist Group. Before Cobra Starship, Saporta was the lead singer, bassist, and songwriter for the punk band Midtown.

Gabe Saporta's Early Life
Gabe Saporta was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. His family is Jewish. His grandparents and great-grandparents escaped Europe during World War II. They found a new home in Uruguay. When Gabe was four years old, he moved with his parents to New York City.
From a young age, Saporta loved music. It became a way for him to deal with a difficult childhood. He loved how music could share messages and bring people together. His first favorite music was hip hop. Soon after, he found punk rock. He started going to concerts to see bands like Gorilla Biscuits and Fugazi. It wasn't long before Gabe and his brother Ricky started their own shows. They also began releasing their own music.
Music Career
Starting with Midtown (1998–2005)
When Gabe Saporta was 16, he joined his first band called Humble Beginnings. He played bass guitar in this group. While studying at Rutgers University, he started the pop punk band Midtown. In Midtown, Saporta was the singer, songwriter, and bassist. The band became quite popular.
Midtown released one mini-album (EP) and three full albums. These albums were The Sacrifice of Life, Save the World, Lose the Girl, Living Well Is the Best Revenge, and Forget What You Know.
After their second album, Midtown had some legal issues with their record label. During this time, Saporta wanted to learn more about the music business. He started managing a band called Armor For Sleep. As Armor For Sleep became successful, Saporta merged his small company into Crush Management. Crush Management also started managing Midtown. Later, Crush helped Saporta launch Cobra Starship.
After Midtown stopped playing together, many fans still loved their music. Because of this, Midtown got back together for a secret show in Brooklyn. They also played at the Skate & Surf Festival in Asbury Park, NJ in 2014. In 2022, Midtown announced more shows. They opened for My Chemical Romance and played two of their own concerts.
Forming Cobra Starship (2006–2015)
After Midtown, Gabe Saporta wanted to create a new music project. He wanted it to be more fun and use different electronic sounds. The idea for Cobra Starship came to him during a trip to the Arizona desert in 2005. Saporta made and recorded the first Cobra album by himself. He worked with S*A*M & Sluggo.
Cobra Starship got an early boost when Saporta's management helped him record a song. This song was for the movie Snakes on a Plane in 2006. It became a small hit.
By 2007, Cobra Starship was a full band and began touring. Their unique sound allowed them to tour with many different artists. They played with bands like 30 Seconds to Mars and Fall Out Boy. They also performed with electronic artists such as Girl Talk.
From 2006 to 2014, Cobra Starship released four albums. They had two very popular songs, "Good Girls Go Bad" and "You Make Me Feel". Both songs sold over two million copies. Their song "Hot Mess" also sold over 500,000 copies. The song "Good Girls Go Bad" featured singer Leighton Meester. A few years later, Saporta even acted in the TV show Gossip Girl.
In 2012, Cobra Starship was the main opening act for Justin Bieber. They joined him on his entire stadium tour in South America.
Starting The Artist Group (2015–present)
In November 2015, Gabe Saporta announced he would no longer perform or release new music. He and his business partner, Mike Carden, started a company called T∆G // The Artist Group. This company helps manage musical talent. Saporta explained that he now wants to work behind the scenes. He wants to help younger artists achieve their dreams.
In 2022, Gabe Saporta joined beatBread's Artist Advocacy Council. This group gives important advice to a music funding platform. Saporta works with other music industry leaders on this council.
Other Projects
On June 5, 2010, MTV aired an episode of When I Was 17. This show focused on Gabe Saporta's life as a teenager. Saporta has also hosted and reported for various music TV shows. He has been a presenter at the VMAs. He was also a US reporter for The EMAs and BBC1. He hosted several countdown shows on Fuse.
In March 2013, Gabe Saporta was featured on "Make It Out This Town." This was the first song from rapper Eve's fourth album Lip Lock. In 2015, Saporta started working for Beats1 Radio. He was an on-air host for their shows.
Beyond music, Saporta has also worked in restaurants, real estate, and fashion.
Personal Life
Gabe Saporta's father, Diego Saporta, studied medicine. He became a doctor in Montevideo, Uruguay. He was not happy with the healthcare system in Uruguay at the time. So, he decided to leave the country with his family in the early 1980s. He then had to train as a doctor again in the United States. Gabe Saporta has said his father's hard work inspired him.
Saporta went to Rutgers University. He studied philosophy and political science there.
In May 2013, Saporta married Erin Fetherston. In March 2016, they had their first child, a son.
