Gachetá, Cundinamarca is a town and municipality in Colombia. It's the main town of the Guavio Province in the Cundinamarca region. The town center of Gachetá is located about 1,745 metres (5,725 ft) above sea level. It sits in the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes mountains.
Gachetá shares its borders with several other places. To the north, it borders Machetá and Manta. To the east, it borders the Boyacá region and Ubalá. In the south, you'll find Gama and Junín. Finally, to the west, it borders Guatavita.

What Does the Name Gachetá Mean?
The name Gachetá comes from the Muysccubun language. This was the language spoken by the Muisca, who lived in this area long ago. In their language, Gachetá means "behind our farmfields."
A Look Back: Gachetá's History
Before the Spanish arrived, the area where Gachetá is now was home to the Muisca. They were an organized group of people living in what was called the Muisca Confederation. Gachetá was part of the lands controlled by the cacique (a local leader) of Guatavita.
The modern town of Gachetá was officially started on April 2, 1593. It was founded by a person named Miguel de Ibarra.
How Gachetá Makes a Living
The main way people in Gachetá earn money is through farming. They grow many different crops. Some of the most important products include coffee, maize (corn), yuca, arracacha, potatoes, beans, sugarcane, and blackberries.
