History of Garden Village
The area where Garden village is located was first settled around the year 1850. Early settlers, who were Metis, called this place Garden Bay or Haley's Bay. The community officially became an incorporated village in 1886. This means it gained its own local government at that time.
Geography of Garden
Garden village is found on the Garden Peninsula. A peninsula is a piece of land almost surrounded by water but connected to the mainland on one side. Here, a stream called Garden Creek flows into Garden Bay. This bay is a small inlet, which is a narrow strip of water reaching inland from a larger body of water.
Garden Bay opens up into the Big Bay de Noc. This larger bay then connects to Green Bay, which is part of Lake Michigan. So, Garden is very close to the Great Lakes!
The village covers a total area of about 1.02 square miles (2.64 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 0.81 square miles (2.10 square kilometers), is land. The remaining 0.21 square miles (0.54 square kilometers) is water.
