The first post office in Garden Plain opened in January 1883. The community officially became an incorporated city in 1902.

Getting Around Garden Plain

U.S. Routes 54 and 400 are major roads located just north of the city. These roads run from east to west. Many streets within the area are made of dirt or gravel.

A railroad line, called the K&O Railroad, connects to the city from the west. The part of the train line that goes east of the city is no longer used.
