Gasquet (pronounced GAS-kee) is a small community in Del Norte County, California, United States. It is located about 22 miles (35 km) south of the Oregon border. It is also 18 miles (29 km) northeast of Crescent City.
The community is named after Horace Gasquet. He was a gold mine owner, and he also founded Crescent City and Happy Camp. Gasquet has had a post office since 1949. It is found within the beautiful Smith River National Recreation Area.

Buck Pierce: A Football Star
Buck Pierce is a retired Canadian Football League (CFL) quarterback. He was born in Gasquet. Buck went to school in nearby Crescent City. He played football for nine seasons in the CFL. As of 2018, he works as a quarterback coach for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Mary Adams Peacock: A Pioneer
Mary Adams Peacock was a pioneer who lived in the 1800s. She used to carry the U.S. Mail from Crescent City to Grants Pass, Oregon.
Mary also managed hotels in Gasquet for many years. She later married Pete Peacock, who ran the coach station. In 1932, a bridge over the Smith River was named after her. This was the first bridge in California named for a woman! The Mary Adams Peacock Bridge is on U.S. Route 199 near Gasquet. Two plants, Anemone adamsiana and Valeriana adamsiana, were also named in her honor.
