Geltwil is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Muri district, which is part of the canton of Aargau. Geltwil is known for its quiet, farming community feel.

History of Geltwil
People have lived near Geltwil for a very long time. The oldest sign of human life is a Roman era villa. This was a large country house built by the Romans.
The name Geltwil first appeared in records in 1160. For many years, Geltwil was closely linked to Muri Abbey. This was a powerful monastery nearby. In the 1200s, the Habsburg family gave most of the land here to the abbey.
Even after the Aargau region was taken over in 1415, Geltwil remained part of the Muri area. It was also part of the Muri church parish. Between 1798 and 1803, Geltwil, Isenbergschwil, and Winterschwil were one big community. In 1816, Geltwil became its own town.
Geltwil has always been a farming village. Its population has stayed about the same over the years. The town's school house was built in 1972. There is also a memorial for a battle that happened here in 1847. This battle was part of the Sonderbund war. In 1942, during a challenging time, the town decided not to start using Daylight saving time.

Geltwil covers an area of about 3.3 square kilometers (1.3 square miles). Most of this land, about 80%, is used for farming. About 15% of the area is covered by forests. The remaining small part, about 5%, has buildings and roads.
