George Newbern (born December 30, 1964) is an American actor. He is well-known for playing Charlie in the TV show Scandal. He also played Bryan MacKenzie in the popular movie Father of the Bride and its follow-ups.
Many people also know George Newbern for his voice acting. He is the voice of Superman in many DC cartoons and video games. He also voices Sephiroth in the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts video game series.

Early life and family
George Newbern grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas. His mother, Betty, was a Spanish teacher. His father, David Newbern, was a doctor who specialized in X-rays. George has two brothers, Gordon and John, and one sister named Murry.
Acting career
Starting out in acting
George Newbern began acting at the Arkansas Arts Center. His first role was as a younger brother in a play called Life with Father. This play was based on books by Clarence S. Day Jr.. This first experience made him want to act more.
His first main role in a film was in 1987. It was a TV movie called Double Switch. This movie was a new version of the classic story The Prince and the Pauper. It was shown as part of the Wonderful World of Disney TV series.
TV shows and movies
From 1986 to 1992, Newbern had a regular role on the show Designing Women. He played Payne McIlroy, the son of a character named Julia Sugarbaker. He has also appeared as a guest star in many other TV shows. These include Friends, where he played Danny (The Yeti), and CSI.
He also had a recurring role in the TV show Scandal. In this show, he played Charlie, a former CIA agent. In 2009, he starred in the Disney Channel movie Dadnapped. He played Neal Morris, the father of the main character. He also played astronaut Stu Roosa in the HBO mini-series From The Earth To The Moon.

His movie roles include Adventures in Babysitting (1987) and Switching Channels (1988). He is most famous for playing Bryan MacKenzie in Father of the Bride (1991). He also appeared in its sequel, Father of the Bride Part II.
Voice acting roles
George Newbern is very well-known for his voice work. He is the voice of Clark Kent/Superman in several animated series. These include Justice League, Static Shock, and Justice League Unlimited. He also voiced Superman in the video games Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2. He has voiced Superman for a longer time than any other actor in both live-action and animated projects.
Newbern also lent his voice to the cartoon series The Pirates of Dark Water. He has done voiceovers for many video games. In 2003, he voiced Mevyn Nooj in Final Fantasy X-2. He also voices Sephiroth, a famous villain, in the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series. His voice work as Nooj impressed the game creators. This led them to choose him to voice Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts II. He continued to voice Sephiroth in other games and movies.
Personal life
George Newbern met actress Marietta DePrima in the mid-1980s. They both went to Northwestern University. They got married in 1990. They have three children together.
