A Look Back: Gibson's History
Gibson started in 1858. It was chosen as the main town for the new Glascock County. Later, it officially became a town in 1913. Then, in 1943, it was recognized as a city.

Gibson is located a bit northeast of the middle of Glascock County. You can find it at these coordinates: 33°13′58″N 82°35′43″W / 33.23278°N 82.59528°W. Two main roads, Georgia State Routes 102 and 171, meet right in the center of town.
- GA 102 goes west about 6 miles to Mitchell. It goes east about 10 miles to Stapleton.
- GA 171 goes north about 13 miles to Warrenton. It goes south about 24 miles to Louisville.
The closest big city is Augusta, which is about 44 miles northeast.
The city of Gibson covers about 1.04 square miles (2.7 square kilometers). A small part of this area, about 0.01 square miles (0.04 square kilometers), is water. Rocky Comfort Creek, a stream that flows southeast into the Ogeechee River, runs through the northern part of Gibson.
