Giuseppe Rondizzoni (born March 14, 1788 – died May 24, 1866) was an Italian army officer. He played an important part in helping Chile become independent.

Early Life and Napoleonic Wars
Giuseppe Rondizzoni was born in Mezzano Superiore, Italy, on March 14, 1788. In 1807, he joined the French Imperial Guard. This was a special group of soldiers who protected Napoleon, the powerful leader of France.
Rondizzoni fought in many of Napoleon's wars. He was part of campaigns in Spain (1808) and Austria (1809). He also fought in Russia (1812) and Germany (1813).
He stayed with Napoleon until the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1813 and 1814. He took part in major battles in Germany, like Lutzen, Bautzen, Dresden, and Leipzig. In 1815, as a captain, he showed great bravery at the Battle of Waterloo.
During these wars, Rondizzoni was wounded four times. He was mentioned 20 times in official reports for his courage. He also received the Legion of Honor, a very important award for bravery in France.
Life in Chile
After the Battle of Waterloo, Rondizzoni went back to Italy. He joined the army of the Duchy of Parma. Later, he moved to Philadelphia in the United States. There, he met Jose Miguel Carrera, a general from Chile.
In February 1817, Rondizzoni traveled with General Carrera to Buenos Aires. In July 1817, he joined the Chilean army. He fought in the Sorpresa de Cancha Rayada battle. He left the army for a short time but returned in 1823 as a lieutenant colonel.
Helping Chile and Peru
Rondizzoni was part of an important mission to free Peru from Spanish rule. For his efforts, he was promoted to colonel. He also took part in a mission to Chiloe in 1824 and 1826.
He fought in the Chilean civil war from 1829 to 1830. He supported Ramón Freire in the battles of Ochagavía and Lircay. After losing the Battle of Lircay, he had to leave Chile. He lived in Peru and then in El Salvador.
Return to Chile and Later Years
Rondizzoni came back to Chile in 1839. He became the governor of Constitución in 1842. In 1843, he was promoted to brigadier general. He also became governor of Talcahuano in 1849.
He remained loyal to the government during the Revolution of 1851. He fought in the Battle of Loncomilla. In 1851, he became the Chief of Army Staff. That same year, he was made intendente (a type of regional governor) of Concepción. In 1853, he became intendente of Chiloe.
In 1861, Giuseppe Rondizzoni retired from the army. He lived in Valparaíso and passed away there on May 24, 1866.
Rondizzoni was made a member of the Legion of Merit of Chile. He is still remembered in Chile, his adopted country. Many streets, squares, and monuments are named after him. There is even a fort in the port of Talcahuano named in his honor.
