Gladstone is a city in Clay County, Missouri, United States. It is a suburb of Kansas City. The city is located about 10 to 20 minutes from downtown Kansas City. It is also about 10 to 20 minutes from Kansas City International Airport. In 2020, the city's population was 27,063 people. Gladstone is part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area.

History of Gladstone
Gladstone was first known as the area of Linden. The people living there voted in November 1952 to officially become a city. They did this to avoid being taken over by Kansas City.
A special park in Gladstone is called the Maple Woods Natural Area. It protects a part of the original forest that used to cover the land. This park is so important that it is a National Natural Landmark. The Atkins-Johnson Farmhouse Property is another historic site in Gladstone. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
Gladstone's Geography
Gladstone covers a total area of about 8.06 square miles (20.9 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny part being water.
The city is connected to nearby North Kansas City and Kansas City by several roads. These include Routes 1 and 283. U.S. Route 169 is also very close to Gladstone's western side. I-29 runs near the southern part of the city.
Gladstone has a mostly rectangular shape. Its borders generally stretch from NE Englewood Road to NE 77th Street (south to north). They also go from N. Jackson Avenue to N. Broadway (east to west). There is a small "panhandle" area that extends south to NW 44th Street. In 2005, a part of this area was given to Gladstone by Kansas City. This was done to include the Gladstone Water Plant within the city limits.
There are also four small towns completely surrounded by Gladstone in the southwest. These are Oakview, Oakwood Park, Oakwood, and Oaks.
