In 2005, Glennis Grace represented her country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Later, in 2018, she became a finalist on the popular TV show America's Got Talent.
Glennis Grace's Early Life and Music Career
Glennis Grace was born in Amsterdam, a big city in the Netherlands. Her mother was Dutch, and her father was from Curaçao.
She was discovered when she was just 15 years old. This happened in 1994, after she won a Dutch TV talent show called Soundmixshow. On the show, she sang "One Moment in Time", a famous song by Whitney Houston.
Singing at Eurovision
In 2005, Glennis Grace was chosen to sing for the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a huge international music competition. She performed a song called "My Impossible Dream" and won the national selection.
She then traveled to Kyiv to represent her country. Even though she sang beautifully, she did not make it to the final round of the contest that year.
In 2011, Glennis Grace had a big hit in the Netherlands. Her version of "Afscheid" (a song from 1998) reached the number one spot on the Dutch music charts. She sang this song on a TV show called Beste Zangers.
In 2012, Glennis Grace helped create a music group called Ladies of Soul. She joined other talented Dutch singers like Candy Dulfer and Edsilia Rombley.
Glennis Grace was supposed to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam. However, the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. She finally got to perform in 2021 at the rescheduled contest. She sang "Titanium" with DJ Afrojack.
Competing on America's Got Talent
In 2018, Glennis Grace became a contestant on the 13th season of America's Got Talent. This is a very popular talent show in the United States.
For her first audition, she sang Whitney Houston's "Run to You". All four judges said "Yes," and she moved on to the next round. She continued to impress the judges with songs like "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Prince and "Never Enough''" from the movie The Greatest Showman.
Glennis Grace made it all the way to the semifinals. There, she sang "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush. This performance earned her a spot in the finals, where she was one of the top ten contestants. In the final, she sang "Run" by Snow Patrol and received a standing ovation. She also performed "Meant To Be" with American singer Bebe Rexha. Although she did not win, reaching the finals was a huge achievement.
Coaching on The Voice of Holland
In July 2021, Glennis Grace became a coach on the twelfth season of The Voice of Holland. This is a popular singing competition where coaches guide new talent.
