In 2005, Glennis Grace represented her country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Later, in 2018, she became a finalist on the popular TV show America's Got Talent.
Early Life and Music Career
Glennis Grace was born in Amsterdam, a big city in the Netherlands. Her mother was Dutch, and her father was from Curaçao.
She started her music journey very early. In 1994, when she was just 15 years old, she won a Dutch TV talent show called Soundmixshow. She impressed everyone by singing "One Moment in Time", a famous song by Whitney Houston. This win helped her become known in the music world.
Singing for the Netherlands
In 2005, Glennis Grace had the chance to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a huge international music competition where countries compete with their best singers. She sang a song called "My Impossible Dream" and won the national selection.
She then traveled to Kyiv to perform for the whole world. Even though she sang beautifully, she did not make it to the final round that year.
In April 2011, one of her songs, "Afscheid", became a number one hit in the Netherlands. She sang this song on a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers.
Ladies of Soul
In 2012, Glennis Grace helped create a supergroup called Ladies of Soul. She joined other amazing Dutch singers like Candy Dulfer, Berget Lewis, Edsilia Rombley, and Trijntje Oosterhuis. Trijntje Oosterhuis later left the group in 2017.
Glennis Grace was part of Ladies of Soul until 2024. She performed in their concerts from 2014 to 2019. One of her most popular performances with the group was her cover of Whitney Houston's "Run to You".
In 2024, Ladies of Soul announced that Glennis Grace was no longer part of the group. Glennis Grace shared that it was a difficult time for her. She said she would always love them and wished them the best.
Performing at Eurovision Again
Glennis Grace was scheduled to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam. She was going to perform with DJ Afrojack. However, the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The performance finally happened during the rescheduled Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Glennis Grace sang "Titanium", which was co-produced by Afrojack.
America's Got Talent Journey
In 2018, Glennis Grace appeared on the 13th season of America's Got Talent. This is a very popular talent show in the United States.
For her first audition, she sang Whitney Houston's "Run to You". All four judges loved her performance and voted for her to move on.
In the next round, she sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Prince. The judges gave her great reviews, and she made it to the quarterfinals. She then sang "Never Enough" from the movie The Greatest Showman to reach the semifinals.
In the semifinals, she performed "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush. This earned her a spot in the finals with nine other talented performers. In the final, she sang "Run" by Snow Patrol. She received a standing ovation from both the judges and the audience.
The next day, she performed "Meant To Be" with American singer Bebe Rexha. Although she gave an amazing performance, she did not make it into the top five finalists.
