Early Life and Music Start
Bleta Rexha was born on August 30, 1989, in Brooklyn, New York City. Her parents are from Albania. Her father, Flamur Rexha, came to the U.S. when he was 21. Her mother, Bukurije Rexha, was born in the U.S. to an Albanian family. In Albanian, "bletë" means "bee," which is why people started calling her "Bebe" for short. Bebe learned to play the trumpet, guitar, and piano by herself. She went to Tottenville High School and was in many school musicals. She also joined the school choir, where she found out she had a special singing voice called a coloratura soprano. This means she could sing very high notes with a lot of skill.
