Allium moly, often called yellow garlic or golden garlic, is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the Allium family, just like onions and regular garlic. This plant grows from a bulb and comes back every year. It originally comes from the Mediterranean region. People grow it because it's pretty, but it can also be eaten and used for some traditional medicines.
Where Golden Garlic Grows and What It Looks Like
Golden garlic is mostly found in Spain and Southern France. You can also find it in Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Algeria, and Morocco.
This plant has long, grey-green leaves that can grow up to 30 centimeters (about 12 inches) long. In early summer, it produces many bright yellow, star-shaped flowers. These flowers grow in tight bunches called umbels. A special type of golden garlic, called ‘Jeannine’, has won an award for being a great garden plant. This award is from the Royal Horticultural Society.
