Goofy and Wilbur is a fun animated cartoon short. It was made by Walt Disney Productions. This cartoon first came out in movie theaters on March 17, 1939. It is very important because it was the first cartoon where Goofy starred by himself! Before this, he always appeared with Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck.
In this cartoon, Goofy goes fishing with his little pet grasshopper named Wilbur. They have a lot of funny bad luck. Goofy and Wilbur try to catch fish using Wilbur as bait in a fishing net. The cartoon is known for its many slapstick adventures. These are silly, over-the-top actions that make people laugh. The cartoon was released two years after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). It came out a year before Pinocchio and Fantasia (both in 1940).
What Happens in the Cartoon
Goofy and his friend Wilbur, a friendly grasshopper, go on a fishing trip together. Goofy decides to use Wilbur as bait to attract fish. But he soon realizes that his little friend might actually get eaten! Goofy has a boat he is rowing and a net, but no fishing rod. Wilbur, being a live bug, seems like the perfect choice for bait inside their fishing net.
Wilbur's life depends on Goofy to save him. The little bug becomes bait for several fish. As Wilbur gets into tricky situations again and again, he is swallowed by a frog. Then, that frog gets eaten by a stork! All this happens while Goofy tries hard to rescue Wilbur. In the end, Wilbur surprisingly hatches out of a stork egg. Goofy is very relieved to see his friend is okay. It is not explained how Wilbur ended up inside the stork's egg.
