David Jamahl Listenbee, known by his stage name GoonRock, is an American record producer, musician, singer, songwriter, and rapper. He grew up in Los Angeles, California. Early in his career, he focused on hip hop music. He sold his beats to famous artists like Dr. Dre, Ne-Yo, Kanye West, and Juvenile. Later, he started adding club music sounds to his work.

In 2013, GoonRock helped write and produce the song "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)". This song was for the popular movie The Great Gatsby. It featured Fergie and Q-Tip. In 2012, he also co-wrote and produced two songs for Jennifer Lopez. These songs were "Clothes Off" and "Goin' In". "Goin' In" became a huge hit, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart in 2012.

Between 2015 and 2016, GoonRock released several songs under his last name, "Listenbee". These songs did not become popular in the US or the UK. However, they did have some success in other parts of Europe.

GoonRock's Early Life

David Jamahl Listenbee was born in Princeton, New Jersey. He grew up in nearby Trenton. He lived in Chicago for a few years before moving to Los Angeles, California when he was young. He went to junior high school with Redfoo and will.i.am, who are also famous musicians.

When he first started his career, GoonRock mainly worked on hip hop music. He sold some of his beats to artists like Dr. Dre. He also produced music for Ne-Yo, Music Soulchild, Kanye West, and Juvenile. He even worked on the song "Lift Off" for the Watch the Throne album by Kanye West and Jay-Z, which featured Beyoncé. He has also worked with the songwriter Ryan Tedder.

Producing "Champagne Showers"

GoonRock helped write the song "Champagne Showers". This song was the second single from the album Sorry for Party Rocking. It was released on May 27, 2011, and featured the English singer-songwriter Natalia Kills. The song was even performed on the TV show American Idol in April 2012.

Recent Music Production

In late 2011, GoonRock started working with the group Far East Movement. He also remixed a song for the singer Rihanna. It has been said that GoonRock is working on a new album. On this album, he plans to write and produce songs featuring different artists he admires. GoonRock once said, "every beat I do I'm writing lyrics to as I make it. A lot of the times I have a vocal melody in my head and build the beat around it." He has also reportedly met with the singer Ciara to discuss working together.

Working with Jennifer Lopez

On April 27, 2012, the website Digital Spy reported that Jennifer Lopez had recorded two songs produced by GoonRock. These songs were "Clothes Off" and "Goin' In". Jennifer Lopez said that GoonRock is "very forward with his sound," meaning his music sounds very modern and new.

GoonRock co-wrote, produced, and mixed "Goin' In." The song is about the feeling of freedom you get when you dance. On May 10, GoonRock posted on his Twitter account: "Crazy day finishing 2012's Song of the Summer for @jlo and @Official_flo #goinin." The song was first played on the radio on May 24, 2012, during Ryan Seacrest's radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest.

"Goin' In" was featured in the dance movie Step Up Revolution (2012). It also appeared on Jennifer Lopez's greatest hits album Dance Again... the Hits (2012). Lopez performed "Goin' In" for the first time on the season finale of American Idol on May 23, 2012. The song reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart in 2012.

Many music critics liked the song when it first came out. Robbie Daw from the website Idolator said that "Goin' In" was the "hardest club track we’ve heard from the J.Lo canon in recent years." This means it was a very strong dance song compared to her other club hits.
