A Look Back: Grant's History
The city of Grant was named after a famous American general, Ulysses S. Grant. He was a very important leader during the American Civil War. Later, he became the 18th President of the United States.
For a long time, Grant was a township. A township is a type of local government area. Over the years, some smaller villages within Grant Township became their own cities. Finally, in November 1996, Grant Township officially became the City of Grant.

Grant is a city with a total area of about 26.52 square miles (68.64 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, but about 1.42 square miles (3.68 square kilometers) is water.
Two main roads, Highway 36 and Highway 96, run through the community. Grant is also a great place for outdoor activities. It has several bike paths, including the popular Gateway State Trail.
