Great Tey is a lovely village in Essex, England. It's part of the City of Colchester area. You can find it about six miles west of Colchester, close to other villages like Marks Tey and Little Tey.

Great Tey is easy to reach! It's near Marks Tey railway station, which is on a main train line called the Great Eastern Main Line. This station also connects to the Sudbury Branch Line that goes to Sudbury. Major roads like the A12, A120 road, and A1124 road are also nearby.
Great Tey is one of three villages known as "the Teys," along with Marks Tey and Little Tey. The village is located north of the Roman river. In 1870, a book called John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Great Tey. It mentioned that the village was near the Marks Tey train station and had a post office.

St Barnabas Church
St Barnabas Church is a very old church. It's thought to have been built even before the Norman conquest of England! The lower parts of its tower might even be from Anglo-Saxon times. The church walls are made from interesting materials. These include old Roman bricks from a nearby Roman villa, special rocks called Septaria from cliffs near Walton-on-the-Naze, and local iron stone and flint.
