A Look at Greenblatt's History
Greenblatt's Deli & Fine Wine Shop first started in a different part of Los Angeles. This area, called South Central Los Angeles, had many Jewish families living there at the time. Later, the deli moved to its famous spot on the Sunset Strip.
Herman Greenblatt opened the deli in 1926. After 20 years, in 1946, he sold the business to the Kavin family. The Kavin family owned and ran Greenblatt's for a very long time, 75 years, until it closed in 2021.
Why Greenblatt's Closed
After serving delicious food for 95 years, Greenblatt's Deli closed on August 12, 2021. The owner, Jeff Kavin, decided to close the deli about a month before the Jewish High Holiday season. This time of year usually brought many catering orders. Mr. Kavin wanted to close the deli respectfully.
