Grosse Pointe Shores is a small city in Michigan, located in both Wayne and Macomb counties. In 2020, about 2,647 people lived there. This number was a bit lower than in 2010.
The city was first set up as a village in 1911. It became a city in 2009. Grosse Pointe Shores is a suburb northeast of Metro Detroit. It is the northernmost city in the Grosse Pointe area. It is also the only one of the five Grosse Pointe cities that does not share a border with Detroit. The city sits right on the shores of Lake St. Clair. It is famous for the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House and the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.

History of Grosse Pointe Shores
Grosse Pointe Shores started as a village in 1911. It was part of two different townships back then. These were Grosse Pointe Township in Wayne County and Lake Township in Macomb County.
Later, in 2009, the village officially became a city. This meant the old townships were no longer needed. In 2011, the city government thought about moving the entire city into Macomb County. This was because taxes were lower in Macomb County than in Wayne County.
Geography of Grosse Pointe Shores
Grosse Pointe Shores is located in the northeast part of Wayne County. It also reaches into the southeast part of Macomb County. Most of its land is in Wayne County. The city's eastern border goes out into Lake St. Clair. It even follows the Canadian border in the lake.
To the south, Grosse Pointe Shores borders Grosse Pointe Farms. To the west, it borders Grosse Pointe Woods. Both of these cities are in Wayne County. To the northwest, it borders St. Clair Shores in Macomb County.
The city covers about 19.08 square miles (49.41 square kilometers) in total. However, most of this area is water. Only about 1.11 square miles (2.88 square kilometers) is land. The rest, about 17.97 square miles (46.53 square kilometers), is water from Lake St. Clair. This means about 94% of the city's area is water.
Grosse Pointe Shores is about 12 miles (19 kilometers) northeast of downtown Detroit. It is also the same distance south of Mount Clemens. Mount Clemens is the main city for Macomb County.

In 2010, the city had 3,008 people living there. There were 1,201 households and 911 families. The city had about 2,616 people per square mile of land. There were 1,350 homes in total.
Most of the people were White (92.8%). There were also African American (1.9%), Native American (0.3%), and Asian (3.8%) residents. A small number of people were from other races (0.2%) or mixed races (1.0%). About 1.9% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
About 24.6% of households had children under 18. Most households (68.0%) were married couples. About 24.1% of households were not families. Many people (13.6%) lived alone and were 65 or older. The average household had 2.50 people. The average family had 2.92 people.
The average age in the city was 52.2 years old. About 19.6% of residents were under 18. About 27.6% were 65 or older. The city had almost an equal number of males (50.1%) and females (49.9%).
Schools and Education
Grosse Pointe Shores is served by two different school districts. This depends on which county a part of the city is in.
The area in Wayne County is part of the Grosse Pointe Public School System. Students in this area go to either Ferry Elementary School or Monteith Elementary School. All students then go to Parcells Middle School and Grosse Pointe North High School. All these schools are located in Grosse Pointe Woods.
The part of Grosse Pointe Shores that is in Macomb County is served by the South Lake School District.
Famous People from Grosse Pointe Shores
Many notable people have lived in Grosse Pointe Shores.
- Edsel Ford was the son of Henry Ford. He was also the president of Ford Motor Company.
- William Clay Ford Sr. was Henry Ford's grandson and Edsel Ford's son.
- Manuel Moroun was a very rich businessman. He owned the Ambassador Bridge.
- Art Van Elslander started the furniture store Art Van. He also gave a lot of money to charity. He lived in the city for over 20 years.
- Ralph Wilson was the founder, owner, and president of the Buffalo Bills football team.
