Grzegorz Krychowiak (born on January 29, 1990) is a Polish professional footballer. He plays as a defensive midfielder for Cypriot First Division club Anorthosis Famagusta.
Grzegorz started his senior career in France with Bordeaux. He later played for Reims before joining Sevilla in 2014. With Sevilla, he won the UEFA Europa League twice in a row!
He played 100 games for the Poland national team from 2008 to 2023. He also represented Poland in two UEFA European Championships (2016 and 2020) and two FIFA World Cups (2018 and 2022).

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football

Grzegorz wasn't a huge football fan at first. But his brother convinced him to try it. At just 12 years old, he left home to join a sports academy. He played for several youth teams like Orzeł Mrzeżyno and Arka Gdynia.
In 2006, his talent caught the eye of scouts during a youth game. This led him to join Bordeaux in France. He worked his way up through their youth system and signed his first professional contract there.
Loan Spells in France
In 2009, Grzegorz joined Stade de Reims on loan. He quickly became a key player and helped them get promoted to Ligue 2, a higher league. He played 19 games and scored two goals that season.
Reims liked him so much they extended his loan. He became a fan favorite and was even voted the team's player of the season! He played 40 games and scored two more goals.
After returning to Bordeaux, he went on another loan, this time to Nantes in 2011. He continued to play as a defensive midfielder and made 21 appearances for them.
Back to Stade Reims
In 2012, Grzegorz signed a permanent three-year contract with Stade de Reims. They had just been promoted to Ligue 1, the top French league. He quickly became a regular starter.
He scored his first goal for Reims in January 2013. He scored three more winning goals that season, including against big teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon. He played 36 games and scored four goals.
The next season, 2013–14, he continued to be a strong player for Reims. He even made his 100th appearance for the club. He scored four more goals that season, showing his importance to the team.
Winning Big with Sevilla

In July 2014, Grzegorz joined La Liga team Sevilla in Spain. He quickly became a starter in midfield. Fans and experts praised his strong performances.
He scored his first goal for Sevilla in a UEFA Europa League match in September 2014. This was a big moment! In May 2015, he played in the 2015 UEFA Europa League Final in his home country, Poland. He scored a goal in that final, helping Sevilla win 3–2. He was the only Sevilla player named in the La Liga Team of the Season.
The next season, 2015–16, he continued to shine. He signed a new contract with Sevilla. He even captained the team in some matches. He helped Sevilla reach the 2016 UEFA Europa League Final again. They won 3–1 against Liverpool, making it their third Europa League title in a row!
Time at Paris Saint-Germain
In July 2016, Grzegorz moved back to France to join Paris Saint-Germain, a very famous club. He made his debut in September 2016.
However, he found it harder to get regular playing time there. There was a lot of competition for midfield spots. He played 19 games in his first season with PSG.
Loan to West Bromwich Albion
In August 2017, Grzegorz joined Premier League club West Bromwich Albion in England on loan. He became a regular starter there.
He played 31 games for West Bromwich Albion. At the end of the season, the club was relegated, and he returned to Paris Saint-Germain.
Loan to Lokomotiv Moscow

In July 2018, Grzegorz moved to Russian Premier League club Lokomotiv Moscow on loan. He quickly became a key player for them.
He scored his first goal for Lokomotiv in August 2018. He was even named the club's Player of the Month twice! He helped Lokomotiv Moscow win the Russian Cup. He played 39 games and scored two goals that season.
Permanent Move to Lokomotiv Moscow
In July 2019, Grzegorz signed a permanent contract with Lokomotiv Moscow. He continued his strong performances, helping them win the Russian Super Cup.
He was named the club's Player of the Month for the first three months of the season. He scored 10 goals in the 2019–20 season, helping Lokomotiv qualify for the UEFA Champions League. He also helped them win another Russian Cup in 2021.
Later Career Moves
In August 2021, Grzegorz joined Krasnodar in Russia. However, due to special rules, he suspended his contract in March 2022.
He then had loan spells with AEK Athens in Greece and Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia. In July 2023, he signed with Abha in Saudi Arabia.
In September 2024, Grzegorz joined Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus, where he plays today.
International Career
Playing for Poland's Youth Teams
Grzegorz played for Poland's Under-20 team in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He was the youngest outfield player on the team. He even scored a free kick against Brazil, which was the only goal in that match!
He later played for the Poland Under-21 team. He made his debut in 2009 and even captained the team. He scored three goals for the U21 team.
Playing for the Senior National Team

Grzegorz was first called up to the senior national team in December 2008. He made his debut in a friendly game against Serbia.
He became a regular player for Poland, especially in the defensive midfield position. He helped Poland try to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018
On November 14, 2014, Grzegorz scored his first international goal for Poland in a 4–0 win against Georgia. He scored another important goal that helped Poland qualify for UEFA Euro 2016.
At Euro 2016, he was voted man of the match in Poland's first game. He played every minute of Poland's historic journey, helping them reach the quarter-finals! He even scored a penalty in a shootout against Switzerland.
Grzegorz also helped Poland qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played in the tournament, scoring a goal against Senegal. He continued to play for Poland in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying matches, helping them qualify again. He played his 100th game for Poland in 2023.
Personal Life
In December 2019, Grzegorz married his longtime girlfriend, Celia Jaunat. They first met in 2010.
Grzegorz also runs a business with his brother. He speaks several languages, including Polish, French, Spanish, and English. He even started learning Russian when he moved to Moscow!
His teammates at Lokomotiv Moscow called him "Krykha" because his full name was hard to say. He is good friends with fellow Polish footballer Wojciech Szczęsny.
