Guardsman Pass is a high mountain pass located in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains of Utah. A mountain pass is like a low spot or a path through a mountain range. It helps people travel from one side to the other. This pass sits at an elevation of 9,717 feet (2,962 m).
The pass is found where the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest meets the Bonanza Flats backcountry area. It is also very close to Tri-County Peak. This is a special spot where three different counties meet: Summit, Wasatch, and Salt Lake.
Guardsman Pass is a popular spot for outdoor fun. In summer, people enjoy hiking on its trails. In winter, it's a great place for snowmobiling. It also serves as a starting point for many other trails in the area.
Getting to Guardsman Pass
The main road that goes through Guardsman Pass is called Guardsman Pass Road. This road is also known as Utah 190 on the west side of the pass.
Because of the very heavy amounts of snow at this high elevation, the road is closed in winter. It usually closes from November to May. The exact dates depend on how much snow falls each year.
This road connects to Big Cottonwood Canyon on the west side of the pass. On the east side, it links up with Midway and Park City. The road near Park City goes over another nearby pass called Empire Pass.
In 2018, the last unpaved part of the road was paved. This made the drive much smoother. This section of the road is just below Pinyon Ridge. This ridge divides Wasatch and Summit counties. It is also the southern edge for the Park City Mountain Resort and part of the Deer Valley Resort ski areas.
