Early Life and Education
H. Abram Wilson was born in 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina. His parents were both teachers. When he was a child, he also lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His great-grandfather was one of the first doctors in South Carolina.
He went to Central State University. There, he was the president of his final year class. During his summers, he spent time in San Francisco. While in college, he studied singing and performed in professional choirs. He earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry.
Military Service
Mr. Wilson is a proud veteran. In 1969, he joined the United States Army. After his military service, he worked at Wells-Fargo as a federal funds trader.
Family Life
H. Abram Wilson is married to Dr. Karen B. Wilson. They have two children, Natausha Wilson-Cruz and P. Nathan Wilson.
Political Career
Serving San Ramon City
In November 1999, Wilson was elected to the San Ramon City Council. This council helps make decisions for the city. In 2002, he was chosen to be the mayor. Then, in 2003, he became the first elected mayor of San Ramon. He was re-elected as mayor in 2005.
In 2005, Mr. Wilson received an award from the National Music Educator Association. He earned the "State Legislator of the Year" award. This was for his strong support of music education in schools.
Running for State Assembly
In 2008, Wilson ran for a seat in the California State Assembly. This is a group of lawmakers who create laws for the state. He ran in California's 15th district. This district includes parts of Contra Costa, Alameda, Sacramento, and San Joaquin counties. He did not win this election.
