Hadrien Feraud (born August 16, 1984, in Paris) is a talented French jazz bassist. He is known for his amazing skill on the electric bass.

About Hadrien Feraud

Hadrien Feraud grew up in a family of musicians. His parents, who were also musicians, introduced him to many types of music from a young age. He heard rock 'n roll, blues, funk, R&B, new wave, and, of course, jazz.

Hadrien started learning guitar at age 8, taking lessons from his dad. He also loved film music. By age ten, he was already learning bass lines from famous bands like Earth, Wind & Fire and artists like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

At first, he wanted to play drums. But everything changed when he was 12. He heard an album by a famous bassist named Jaco Pastorius. After that, Hadrien focused completely on the electric bass. He studied the techniques of many great bass players. Soon, Hadrien's amazing bass talent became known around the world.

Working with Other Musicians

Since 2003, Hadrien has played and recorded with many famous musicians. Some of them include John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Lee Ritenour, and Hiromi Uehara. He has also worked with Billy Cobham, Gino Vannelli, and Jean-Luc Ponty.

Hadrien's Music Projects

In late 2004, Hadrien started writing music for his own solo album. At the same time, he played at many clubs in Paris.

In 2005, the legendary guitarist John McLaughlin asked Hadrien to play on two songs for his album Industrial Zen. This was a very important moment for Hadrien.

In 2006, Hadrien finished his first solo album, simply called Hadrien Feraud. Many guest musicians helped him, including John McLaughlin and Biréli Lagrène.

In 2007, he joined Chick Corea's trio and toured North America and Canada. In 2009, he toured Europe with John McLaughlin and his band, the 4th Dimension. Hadrien also helped arrange and produce the album Electric Side for Biréli Lagrène.

Touring the World

Hadrien Feraud has traveled a lot to perform his music.

  • In 2012 and 2013, he toured the US and Europe with the Dean Brown Band.
  • In 2013, he toured with Chick Corea & The Vigil. This band included Chick Corea on keyboards and Marcus Gilmore on drums.
  • He went on a World Tour with Lee Ritenour in 2016 and again in 2018.
  • In 2017, he toured the world with Hiromi Uehara.

  • He also plays a Fodera Beez Elite 5-string and a F Bass Fretless 5-string.
  • Some of his other basses include a 1966 Fender Jazz Bass and a 1973 Fender Precision Bass.
  • In 2009, Hadrien and Ken Smith worked together to create the "Hadrien Feraud Signature Burner" bass.

For his sound system, Hadrien uses Markbass amplifiers and TC Electronic effects.

Hadrien Feraud has received several awards for his incredible bass playing:

  • In 2008, Down Beat Critics Poll named him "Rising Star Electric Bassist of the year."
  • In 2009, he was second in the "Rising Star Electric Bass" category for Down Beat.
