A Brief History of Halliday
Halliday wasn't always in the same spot! When it was first settled, it was about two miles north of where it is today. But in 1914, the city decided to move.
Why did it move? A new railroad line was being built from Mandan to Killdeer. The people of Halliday wanted their town to be close to it. Being near the railroad was important for trade and travel. The very first post office in the area opened in 1900 at William Halliday's home.
Famous People from Halliday
John S. Lesmeister, who later became the 30th State Treasurer for North Dakota, grew up right here in Halliday.
