Halvard Hanevold (born December 3, 1969 – died September 3, 2019) was a famous Norwegian biathlete. A biathlete is an athlete who competes in biathlon, a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Halvard Hanevold was known for his amazing career, winning many medals in major competitions.

Halvard Hanevold was a top biathlete for many years. He won his first Olympic gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. Four years later, he won another gold at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

He continued to achieve great things. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he earned a bronze medal in the 20 km individual race. He also won a silver medal in the 10 km sprint event. His last Olympic medal was a gold in the 4 × 7.5 km relay at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Halvard Hanevold took part in 16 Biathlon World Championships between 1994 and 2009. He achieved 40 podium finishes in the Biathlon World Cup series. A podium finish means placing in the top three in a race. His last podium finish was in the very last race of his final season.

He officially retired from biathlon after the 2009–10 season. Halvard was also a close friend of Swedish biathlete Björn Ferry.

Halvard Hanevold's Passing

Halvard Hanevold passed away on September 3, 2019. He was 49 years old. He died at his home in Asker, Akershus, Norway.
