What is Hanazuki: Full of Treasures About?
The series is set in a galaxy where many moons exist. These moons are in danger from something called the "Big Bad." This is a black, inky mist that takes away life and color from anything it touches.
Each moon has a special protector called a Moonflower. Moonflowers are like plant-humanoids who use their feelings to create magical "treasures." These treasures are given to them by a baby-like being named Little Dreamer. When a Moonflower plants a treasure, it grows into a tree. These trees help keep the Big Bad away.
The story starts with Hanazuki, a brand new Moonflower, arriving on a moon. This moon is home to many creatures, including colorful rabbit-like beings called Hemka. Many episodes show Hanazuki and her friends going on adventures. She learns about her duties and how to understand her own emotions. At the end of each adventure, she grows a Treasure Tree that matches her mood.
As the show continues, Hanazuki meets other Moonflowers. Some of them have struggled to save their own moons. They try to learn from Hanazuki how to use their powers better against the Big Bad.

Meet the Characters
Moonflowers
Moonflowers are childlike guardians of the galaxy's moons. They are created by Little Dreamer. They have white flowers on their heads and their hair highlights change color with their feelings. This helps them grow Treasure Trees to protect their moons.
- Hanazuki (Jessica DiCicco) – She is the main character and a newly born Moonflower. Hanazuki is kind, friendly, and always hopeful. She loves to help others. She quickly learns how to be a guardian and understands her emotions better than most other Moonflowers.
- Kiazuki (Cassandra Lee Morris) – An older Moonflower who is a bit gloomy. Her moon has been badly damaged by the Big Bad. She says she knows more than Hanazuki, but she has never been able to grow her own colored Treasure Tree. She feels jealous of Hanazuki's success. Kiazuki sometimes tries to trick Hanazuki into helping her get treasures to fix her moon.
- Kiyoshi (Vargus Mason) – A male Moonflower who protects a moon full of unicorns. He tends to be negative, so he can only grow black Treasure Trees. These trees don't work against the Big Bad. He was removed from his moon because of his failures. Hanazuki helps him learn to control his emotions and get his moon back.
- Maroshi (Marcus Toji) – This Moonflower comes from a moon that was covered in ocean but got frozen and shattered by the Big Bad. Even after losing his home, he stays positive and relaxed. This makes him easy to get along with, but he can seem a bit careless. He is very good at flying through space on a device like a surfboard.
- Miyumi (Elise Dubois) - A confident and outgoing Moonflower. She is usually sure of herself. Sometimes she can be a bit careless and focused on having fun. But she learns to be responsible in the end.
Hemka
The Hemka are small, rabbit-like creatures living on Hanazuki's moon. They speak in a made-up language that only Hanazuki can fully understand. Their bodies are flexible, and they can combine and change into different objects. Each Hemka has a different color and shows a specific personality trait that Hanazuki might be feeling.
- Red Hemka (Colleen Villard) – A feisty Hemka who likes to start fights and play tricks. Red often acts like the leader of the Hemkas.
- Orange Hemka (Michael Sinterniklaas) – A silly Hemka who loves to jump around and make funny faces.
- Yellow Hemka (Colleen Villard) – A happy Hemka who enjoys playing and stays positive even in dangerous situations.
- Lime Green Hemka (Jessica DiCicco) – A scared Hemka who gets startled very easily.
- Green Hemka (Michael Sinterniklaas) – A calm Hemka who speaks in a relaxed way.
- Teal Hemka (Michael Sinterniklaas in season 1, Cassandra Lee Morris in the shorts) – A fancy and glamorous Hemka.
- Blue Hemka (Jessica DiCicco) – A sad Hemka who is often crying or about to cry.
- Lavender Hemka (Michael Sinterniklaas) – An inspired Hemka who has creative ideas but is too shy to share them.
- Purple Hemka (Michael Sinterniklaas) – A brave Hemka who performs daring acts.
- Pink Hemka (Michael Sinterniklaas) – A loving Hemka who shows affection to everyone.
- Raspberry Hemka (Cassandra Lee Morris) - This Hemka represents hope.
- Emerald Hemka (Avery Waddell) - This Hemka represents jealousy.
Unicorns
Unicorns in the show live on Kiyoshi's moon. They have the same colors and personality traits as the Hemka. They can also use magic with their horns. Most unicorns are voiced by Debi Derryberry.
- Sleepy Unicorn (Avery Waddell) – A unicorn who lives on Hanazuki's moon. As his name suggests, he sleeps a lot. He has a difficult past; he was once called Noble Unicorn. He was forced to leave his home moon after failing to stop his brother, Twisted Unicorn, from taking over. Sleepy believes he can't use magic anymore because of his failure. Hanazuki helps him regain his confidence to use his powers again.
- Twisted Unicorn (Avery Waddell) – Sleepy Unicorn's brother and the leader of the unicorns. Twisted is a mean ruler who overthrew Kiyoshi. He makes his fellow unicorns maintain a force field that he claims will protect their moon. Hanazuki, Kiyoshi, and their friends eventually remove him from power. Twisted then hunts them across the galaxy for revenge.
Slooths
Slooths are sloth-like creatures that live on Miyumi's moon. Other Slooths are voiced by Cassandra Lee Morris.
- BB (Elise Dubois) - Miyumi's favorite teal Slooth. Like Miyumi, BB loves everything fabulous.
Other Characters
- Little Dreamer (Colleen Villard) – Hanazuki's baby-like creator. He delivers treasures to the Moonflowers. He is always sleeping and wears different pajamas almost every time he appears.
- Dazzlessence Jones (Avery Waddell) – He acts as the sheriff of Hanazuki's moon and looks like a diamond. He helps Hanazuki keep things in order and often speaks in song.
- Zikoro (Avery Waddell) – Kiazuki's only friend on her moon. He is a black creature who acts like a restless dog. Kiazuki often treats him badly, but he stays loyal to her and enjoys bothering the Hemka. After Kiazuki leaves him on Hanazuki's moon, he starts to like Hanazuki and her friends more.
- Chicken Plant (Alison Martin) – A grumpy plant that looks like a chicken. It constantly tries to eat the Hemka. It lays eggs that hatch into destructive monsters.
- Mirror Plant (Shondalia White) – A plant that can repeat what someone says and translate their thoughts.
- Mazzadril (Michael Sinterniklaas) – These are one-eyed, four-legged beasts with horns and tentacles for mouths. They live on the dark side of Hanazuki's and Kiazuki's moons.
- Doughy Bunington (Pat Fraley) – A friendly hotdog-like creature who loves food. He lives on the dark side of the moon because he ate Chicken Plant's wings.
