Havana is a small city in northwest Yell County, Arkansas, United States. In 2020, about 239 people lived there. Havana is part of the Russellville area.
Arkansas Scenic State Highway 309 starts in Havana. This highway leads to the top of Mount Magazine. Mount Magazine is Arkansas's highest point and home to a State Park.
Havana is located between the towns of Booneville and Danville. You can find it on State Highway 10. The area offers great views of Mount Magazine, which is the tallest mountain in Arkansas.
West of Havana, you'll find Blue Mountain Lake. This lake is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. It's a popular spot for fishing, camping, swimming, and boating.
Havana is in the Petit Jean River Valley. The Ouachita Mountain range is to the south, and the Ozark Mountain range is to the north. Mount Magazine, to the north, offers fun activities like camping, hiking, and rock climbing. Some people even go hang gliding there!
Havana has local businesses and is home to the Western Yell County High School and Jr. High School. Their sports teams are called the Wolverines.
The area around Havana is mostly rural. You'll see lots of trees, pastures for animals, and fields for crops. Local jobs often involve raising chickens and other livestock, or growing crops. There are also trucking companies, clothing makers, and wood-working businesses. Since about 2004, natural gas production has also grown a lot.
Even though it's a small city, Havana provides important services. Residents get city water, sewer, and trash collection. There's also a Rural Fire Department with several fire trucks to help keep everyone safe.
In 2008, a new medical clinic, the Western Yell County Medical Clinic, opened on AR 10 West. A new High School also opened in December 2008.
