Hayward is a small city located in Freeborn County, Minnesota, in the United States. It's quite close to a bigger city called Albert Lea. In 2020, about 252 people lived there.

Hayward's History
Hayward got its name from an early settler named David Hayward. He moved to this area from Postville, Iowa, around 1855. However, he only lived in Hayward for two years before moving back to Iowa. Even though people started settling here in 1855, Hayward officially became a city much later, in 1925.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of Hayward covers about 0.63 square miles (1.58 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.
Hayward is located within Hayward Township. However, the city and the township are separate places. You can find Hayward along Interstate 90. Freeborn County Roads 26 and 46 also pass through the city.

- In 1930, a very long game of horseshoes took place in Hayward. The local postmaster and the train station agent played for five months and four days! The postmaster won the game with 25,000 points, just barely beating the train station agent's 24,949 points.
