Hedge school facts for kids
Hedge schools were small unofficial illegal schools in Ireland which existed during the 18th and 19th century. These schools were designed to secretly provide primary education to children of Catholic and Presbyterian faiths because at that time the laws only allows schools for those of the Anglican faith.
These schools were also called in Irish language as scoil chois claí, scoil ghairid or scoil scairte.
