Hemmiken is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Sissach district. It is part of the canton of Basel-Country in Switzerland.

History of Hemmiken

Hemmiken is an old settlement. The first time it was ever written about was in the year 1255. Back then, it was known by a slightly different name, Enninchon.

Hemmiken covers an area of about 3.39 square kilometers (about 1.31 square miles). A large part of this land, about 70%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 25% of the area. The remaining 5.6% of the land has buildings and roads.

Most of the built-up area includes houses and other buildings. The rest is used for roads and other ways to get around. The forests are mostly dense woods, with some smaller groups of trees or orchards. Farmers in Hemmiken grow crops and use land for pastures.

The town is located in the Sissach district. It sits on the right side of a smaller valley that branches off from the main Ergolz valley. Hemmiken itself is a linear village, meaning its buildings are spread out along a road.
