Henlopen Acres is a small town located north of Rehoboth Beach in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It is one of the smallest towns in Delaware. In 2010, about 122 people lived there. It is also part of a larger area called the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography and Location
Henlopen Acres is found at coordinates 38°43′47″N 75°05′11″W / 38.72972°N 75.08639°W. It covers an area of about 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), all of which is land. This makes it the smallest town in Delaware.
The town has interesting neighbors:
- The Atlantic Ocean is to its northeast.
- Rehoboth Beach is to its southeast.
- Other parts of Sussex County are to its west and north.
A large part of its western edge follows the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal. Also, a neighborhood called North Shores is just north of Henlopen Acres. This area separates the town from Cape Henlopen State Park.
Town Layout
Henlopen Acres is divided into 216 sections of land. On these sections, you can find 205 homes. There is also the town hall, a maintenance area, the town's marina, the Henlopen Acres Beach Club, Block W Beach, and the Rehoboth Art League. The town has about 3.6 miles (5.8 kilometers) of roads, which are usually lined with trees.

In 2000, there were 139 people living in Henlopen Acres. There were 69 households and 42 families. The average household had about 2 people. Many homes in Henlopen Acres are vacation homes. Only about one-third of the houses are lived in all year.
Henlopen Acres is known as one of the richest places in Delaware. It is almost tied with Greenville for having the highest personal incomes.
History of Henlopen Acres
The name "Henlopen" might come from Thijmen Jacobsz Hinlopen (1572–1637). He was a merchant from Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
Early Days
Before Europeans arrived, Native American people lived and were active in the area of Henlopen Acres. Later, the first European settlers came. They were organized by a Dutch merchant named Samuel Blommaert (1583–1651 or 1654). After this, the land became used for farming.
Founding of the Town
In 1930, a large piece of this farmland, about 156-acre (63 ha), was sold to Colonel Wilbur S. Corkran (1888–1962). He bought it for $100,000. Colonel Corkran then developed the land during the 1930s. He wanted to create a "residential development where quiet-loving, cultured people may live in a country seaside community." He aimed for a place that would be healthy, comfortable, and enjoyable. His development officially became the town of Henlopen Acres in 1970.
Education for Students
Henlopen Acres is part of the Cape Henlopen School District. Students living in the town go to Rehoboth Elementary School. For high school, students attend Cape Henlopen High School, which is the only main high school in the district.
Transportation in the Area
Most people travel into and out of Henlopen Acres by car. The town does not have any major state highways directly serving it. Instead, smaller local roads connect Henlopen Acres to the nearby areas. The closest state highway is Delaware Route 1A, which is in the neighboring town of Rehoboth Beach.
Notable People
Some well-known people have connections to the area near Henlopen Acres:
- Joe Biden, who is the 46th President of the United States (2021–present). He was also the 47th Vice President of the United States (2009–2017) and a United States Senator from Delaware (1973–2009). His wife, Jill Biden, is an educator and the current First Lady of the United States (2021–present). They own a beach house in the North Shores neighborhood, which is just north of Henlopen Acres.
- John Delaney was a United States Representative for Maryland's 6th congressional district (2013–2019). He also ran for President of the United States in 2020. He owns a beach house in North Shores as well.
